Rusty Leaves
This stunning piece draws its deep inspiration from the rusty red plant life that I encountered during an unforgettable visit to the beautiful low tide at Whiskey Gulch, a cherished beach located just north of the picturesque town of Homer, Alaska.
The mesmerizing plant life gracefully transitions through wispy reds while flowing with the receding tide, eventually giving way to deep, dark rusts as it is left behind on rocky beach to dry in the sun. This artwork was created through a unique and dynamic process that involves both adding rich layers of vibrant inks and skillfully taking away some elements to reveal hidden beauty.
By utilizing isopropyl alcohol, I was able to pull up color, creating the delicate leaf formations that you see, which were later complemented by painting over the surface with a striking white acrylic paint to provide stunning contrast and depth.

The original artwork was created with alcohol inks on 8”x10” gessoed hardboard. Compositions are cropped by the artist to maintain overall integrity and best fit the different print options and aspect ratios.
