Caring for your prints.
Keep the prints out of direct sunlight.
The damaging rays found in UV light will shorten the life of your print, so consider a wall locations that doesn’t have direct sunlight coming through a window when hanging a print.
Mat before framing.
Before framing, it is best to have prints professionally matted. This protects the print and keeps it from touching the frame glass. If humidity or moisture get inside a frame where a print is touching glass, the print will get stuck to the glass and removing it will damage a print.
Don’t touch the prints.
It is tempting to touch the prints to feel the paper texture, but this can scuff and leave oils from your hand on the surface of the print. Hold the print on the sides or rest them on a clean surface when viewing.
Us UV blocking glass/acrylic.
When framing a print, it is best to have the framer use 99% UV blocking glass or acrylic. This extends the lifespan of your print to the maximum when on display.
Avoid heat and humidity.
Heat and humidity are major factors in determining the life of a print. Cooler temperatures slow the aging process. Hotter temperatures age the paper more quickly. Keep prints stored in a dry room below 70 degrees farenheit. Avoid attics and damp basements.
Avoid storing in acidic materials.
Acid and environmental pollutants will cause your porints to yellow over time and lose their original color. To slow the yellowing process, store in wood boxes, as wood is naturally acidic.
